DAS visited 19th Ajax Girl Guides on Thursday, May 28, 2009 The 19th Ajax Girl Guides invited DAS to come and visit them at one of their meetings. A group of DAS members were pleased to accept their invitation, and took their birds to meet and entertain the girls. We try to stress the commitment that has to be made when purchasing a bird companion, while showing them what wonderful pets these beautiful creatures make. The girls were given the opportunity to hold our birds on their arms or shoulders and have their photo taken. A couple of birds were allowed to fly free in the gymnasium with an unexpected result... scroll to the bottom of the page to see what Pete thought was a great game!
Cast of Characters: (in alphabetical order) Angel, Peaches and Sydney brought along Carol Buster requested that Elaine be allowed to come along with him CesarGirl, Cuddles and Harley allowed Terry to accompany them Echo and Rachel thought it might be nice if Joyce came too English Budgies (names not specified) included Jim as their guest finches and softbills (names not specified) demanded that Mike be added to their invitation Kaeli dragged Diane, kicking and screaming, to the gathering Pete and Victoria condescended to allow Debbie to visit as well
DAS members appreciate the good manners and excellent behaviour displayed by the 19th Ajax Girl Guides - Thank you all!
Pete's Adventure! After trying out his wings and flying across the gym a few times, Pete decided to try for height instead of distance... and landed high in the rafters! Seems that Pete decided this was a great place to keep a Cockatoo-eye on what was happening below him, and didn't want to come down. Calling his name, squeaking a toy, holding out arms for perches just didn't attract him. A towel was thrown up to attempt to get him flying again and hopefully landing down where he could be reached, but Pete was too smart for that! He tried to catch the towel with his beak, or ducked and let it whiz past him (as is shown in one of the photos below). Then the custodian came carrying a long, extendable handle with a pink, fuzzy duster taped on the end, and finally Pete was encouraged to fly down... and straight out the gym door! Luckily, he landed not far down the corridor and Debbie was able to pick him up and bring him back.
Guess who would be getting his wings clipped that night when he got home?
