DAS Visited Frenchman's Bay Public School's

Grade One Classes on Thursday, June 11

DAS members were invited to bring their birds to meet the 5 Grade One classes at Frenchman's Bay Public School.  This is by far the largest group of children we have accepted an invitation from but for the most part our birds seemed to accept the large numbers.  As always, our group of volunteers stressed the major commitment required from anyone purchasing a bird as a pet/companion while showing them the joy these wonderful feathered creatures can bring into their lives.  After we spoke to the children and our birds showed off for them, the children who had parental consent held one or more of our birds.

Pete had gotten the wing-clip that had been promised after his escapade when visiting the Girl Guides (photos available under Community - 19th Ajax Girl Guides Visit), so we felt secure in the knowledge that there wouldn't be a repeat performance.  However, there seems to be a little bit of the devil in Angel and she decided to be the entertainment in the sky this time!  Something must have spooked her and she sailed off in flight... and right up into the rafters of the gymnasium.  It was a case of déjà vu in a smaller, pink and grey version.  Well out of reach and studiously avoiding the calls for her to descend, she remained as look-out while the other birds posed for photos.  Please see below for pictures of her... very small and distant pictures...

Cast of Characters:

(in alphabetical order)

Angel, Peaches and Sydney allowed Carol to accompany them

Alexandra thought it might be nice if Gaye came along... as long as she had a map to follow

CesarGirl, Cuddles and Harley condescended to bringing along Terry

Cody and Freddy wanted Ann along as their own private perch

Echo and Rachel needed Joyce to carry all their supplies

English Budgies (names not specified) ignored the fact that Jim was with them

Kaeli decided to let Diane tag along

Pete and Victoria permitted Debbie along for the ride... Debbie was driving

DAS members were amazed that so many children confined to one gym were not noisier and behaved so well - Thank you all!
